Italy’s second-seeded player, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, faced a disappointing defeat against Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the opening round of the WTA 250 hardcourt tournament in Hobart, Australia.
Cocciaretto dominated the early stages, winning the first 10 games and holding a 6-0, 3-0 (30-0) lead, with Putintseva only securing 5 out of 43 total points. Despite having a match point at 5-3 in the second set, Cocciaretto couldn’t secure the win. She also served for the match at 5-4 in the third set.

In the next round of the Hobart tournament, Putintseva will face Maria Bouzkova from the Czech Republic. It’s worth noting that Hsieh Su-wei has recently announced her retirement from singles competition.
