Jack Diamond: Midfielder of Sunderland has been acquitted in a rape case
Sunderland midfielder Jack Diamond has received the verdict in a case involving rape and sexual assault.
In May 2022, Diamond encountered a girl on a dating app, engaging in consensual sexual relations periodically. The prosecution argued that on a particular day, Diamond invited the girl to his home, where she agreed but specified they would only engage in hugs. Despite initially consensual activity, the girl later claimed Diamond raped her after expressing fatigue and a desire to sleep.
Diamond countered, stating the girl herself desired sex, which he did not think was a good idea. Following this, the alleged victim turned away and pushed him away when he attempted to comfort her.
The Newcastle Crown Court heard arguments from both sides and declared the 23-year-old footballer not guilty on both charges. The jury took only 15 minutes to reach a verdict. Upon hearing the decision, Diamond displayed relief by putting his head in his hands and crying tears of happiness.
It’s worth noting that Sunderland had suspended the Black Cats’ player last spring when charges were filed against him, and he last played in March 2023.
