Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev turned his fourth final appearance this year into a fourth title in Gijón. The top-seeded player of the tournament’s inaugural edition defeated Czech-American Sebastian Korda 6:2, 6:3 in the decider.
Rublev, the ninth man in the world rankings, lost a set in Gijón only in his opening duel with Belarusian Ilya Ivashka, and managed to win the next three matches in two sets. He defeated the son of former Czech tennis player Petr Korda in an hour and 15 minutes and followed up this year’s tournament victories in Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade. Overall, the 24-year-old Moscow native triumphed on the ATP Tour for the 12th time.
The two years younger Korda played his first final of the season. He won his debut title in Parma last year.
